The Senior Moot 2019

Dear Student,

I write to announce the Senior Moot 2019.

The Senior Moot is a mooting competition open to all students on the post-graduate courses: BPTC/LPC/GDL and GE LLB.

The competition takes place over three rounds: First Round, Semi-Final, and Final.  The same moot problem is used for each round.

The event is a sole survivor per moot system.

There are 64 places available.

The final will be held at the Supreme Court on 9 May 2019.

The Judges will be senior practitioners (to be confirmed at the time of writing).

Timetable

Round 1: will take place during the week of 14 January 2019.  The moot will last one hour and will take place on the Gray’s Inn campus.  You will not be able to change the time or date of the moot you have been allocated.

Skeleton arguments to be exchanged 7 days before the moot.

Round 2: will take place during the week of 11 February 2019. Again the moot will last one hour and will take place on the Gray’s Inn Campus.  You will not be able to change the time or date of the moot you have been allocated.

Skeleton arguments to be exchanged 7 days before the moot.

Round 3 (FINAL). As stated above, this will take place on 9 May at the Supreme Court.

Skeleton arguments to be exchanged 7 days before the moot.

Prizes.

In addition to the intrinsic value of the experience, a substantial prize fund will be available.

Application for a place

Places in the competition will be allocated by Lynne Townley (Deputy Moot Director).
A short application is required by email to Lynne.Townley@city.ac.uk

The application will comprise of:

  1. Your name/email address and the course you are enrolled on.
  2. A recent case which has caught your attention. Giving reasons.  Did you agree with the judgment? What do you think the implications of the judgment are? (max 250 words)
  3. Your motivation for applying for the competition (you may detail any previous mooting/public speaking experience). (max 250 words)

Applications will be accepted from 9 am on Thursday 22nd November – 9am on Friday 23rd  November 2018.

The mooting places (and a waiting list in the event that a participant can no longer participate in the competition) will be notified by Lynne on Friday 7 December 2018.

If you are selected for Round 1, you will be allocated a role and a particular moot.  It will not be possible to rearrange the moot or role which you have been allocated (classes can be re-arranged if necessary).
